TOP NEWS: Chris has recently received the Terra Nova Young Innovator Award, sponsored by Suncor Energy.
Our research focuses on synthetic organometallic chemistry and green chemistry. The Green Chemistry and Catalysis Group is comprised of the laboratories of Dr. Francesca Kerton and Dr. Chris Kozak. Students and researchers joining the group will develop skills in synthetic inorganic and organic chemistry, air-sensitive techniques (using state-of-the-art glove boxes and vacuum lines), spectroscopic techniques (NMR, EPR, IR, UV-Vis, MS), magnetic property measurement, and X-ray diffraction.
CURRENT INTERESTS INCLUDE:
- Catalysis: Non precious-metal catalysts for C-C cross-coupling
- Green Chemistry:
Oxidation
catalysis and biodegradable polymer synthesis from renewable feedstocks
- Small molecule activation and catalysis (specifically CO2
fixation)
- Exploratory studies of paramagnetic organometallic and coordination complexes
- Ligand design for organometallic and coordination chemistry
Undergraduates interested in Chemistry 490 projects or summer research positions should contact Dr. Kozak for further information.
