Baie Verte

Tentative Itinerary

Sunday July 18: 2.30 p.m. approx, meet at Gillingham's Irving, Trans Canada Highway Bishop's Falls. Stay at Mount Peyton Hotel, Grand Falls (800-563-4894 or 709-489-2251).

Monday July 19: Exploits River sites in the Grand Falls area. Then Drive to Baie Vista Inn, Baie Verte (877-532-8250), our base for the next four nights.

Tuesday to Thursday, July 20 – 22: Botanical exploration of the Baie Verte Peninsula. The varied geology of the area promises a varied flora and almost certainly some new discoveries. Details to be decided later.

Friday July 23: Drive to Sops Arm for a two night stay at the Riversea Motel (get in touch with our president, Glenda Quinn 709-834-8588 to make arrangements.)

Saturday – July 24: Botanical exploration of the Main River – one of the last old growth forest sites left in Newfoundland.

Sunday July 25: Leave for home or wherever you are going next.

N.B. This is not an organised tour, just a group of botanical friends, including some professionals, who happen to be exploring the same places at the same times! Everyone is expected to make their own arrangements for accommodation etc. although a provisional block of rooms has been reserved for the convenience of members at each of the above hostelries. Please mention our name when booking if you choose to use these places and, if possible, let Glenda know you have booked.

Other accommodation including camping is available in most of these areas, but you must sort it out for yourself. Anyone is free to come for all or any part of the trip that suits them – but if possible let us know your intentions.
